In-house construction of NAS
          Project
Let’s introduce a server for storage at a low price!
Background

As the amount of stored data increased with the digitization of paper documents and other various parts, it was assumed that the NAS in the company would run out of space. In addiction, it is disheartening not being able to take a backup of the data properly. In addition, we were considering whether we could solve the problems of complicated access rights management and the need to integrate multiple NAS as inexpensively as possible.

Subject
We would like to improve the skills of the people in charge and at the same time solving problem showed in Background.

① TrueNAS OS install → Because it is an open source system that enables high-speed and stable backups called snapshots, is easy to manage, and can be set in various ways. ②The server itself was assembled by purchasing the parts separately. → Because the manufacturer’s products are very expensive, and because it is an experimental aspect to see how much cost can be reduced while being practical, we decided to make our own. In order to meet the minimum specifications required for TrueNAS and achieve sufficient performance for future operation as a NAS, we selected parts while looking at the balance with cost.

③Set permissions →By granting folder access rights to groups, which are groups of users, it is possible to set restrictions on a department-by-department basis, making it easy to maintain settings when personnel changes occur. (In the future, we are considering whether we can maintain it on the user side)
